"I want to talk about me" -Toby Keith 2001

Video Editor, Content Creator, Fun-Filled Chaos

Howdy Folks!

My name is Bliss and I'm a video editor, content creator and all around good-time haver! I figured I would give you my story.

My dad is a real purveyor of the 10,000 hours theory; the belief that to truly be a master of anything, you have to have spent 10,000 hours studying and perfecting it. Growing up, he asked me several times what my hours were going to be dedicated to, and I often told him they would be spent on anything I want. Life is too short to master one thing, why not just be pretty great at a whole lot of things? This portfolio is proof I am doing just that!

My B.A. is in Classical Studies with a focus in Ancient Architecture. I have completed several in-depth research projects on topics ranging from Constantine the Great's lesser known first wife Minervina, to the variation in horticultural practices of the Ancient Roman Republic. Of course, there's not much one can do with a Bachelor's, so while the M.S. and Ph.D. are in process, I have split my focus in many other areas for work.

Video Editing started in high school for class projects and group assignments. Eventually, it grew to passion projects, and then onto professional material for the drag racing competition I help run, the Comp Eliminator Bonus Fund. When my dad started the family soap company it only felt natural to extend it over there too. So of course when my sorority needed someone to make some videos for a charity dance competition, I was happy to oblige. Since then I've made videos for just about everything under the sun, which eventually led to all of my other creative mediums.

Graphic Design is not something I thought I would be good at, but when duty calls (duty being an empty bank account and a friend asking for some help on a project), you get good at a lot of things. I have now designed t-shirts, banners, flyers, checks, advertisements, decals, websites, and so much more. It also helped expand my video editing knowledge to add motion graphics, which have really amped up my abilities, and I'm so grateful for it!

Photography is something my sister is certainly an expert at, but I have always just seen it as a fun hobby to get some wall art. However, that is another area that I have had to expand my knowledge to in order to complete many of the tasks my job has deemed necessary. I think this is the area I am furthest from mastery on, but it still is quite fun and so useful in the modern world.

Other mediums I have worked in for various craft projects are sewing, knitting, writing, music mixing, jewelry making, interior design modeling, archaeological surveying, 3-D printing, coding and so much more. Most of these have just been one-off projects, just to see if I could do it, but my God were they fun and very challenging.

It's been a wild ride and I've got a lot of niche interests and a weird knowledge base because of it, but that's why I'm here. To show that even with zero classical training, and no applied degrees or certificates, you can still learn to create in any medium just as well as any true professional!

Anyway, if you made it all the way down here, congrats. I hope you learned a little about me and what I'm all about! I shall now leave you with my favorite quote, even if it is the opposite of the 10,000 hours theory:

"Jack of all trades, master of none, is better than being a master of one."
